Rufus Dawkins

Rufus Dawkins is a musician in Clarksville, TN. A lot of his music is about love and the idea of "home." I designed a shirt to portray these ideas by illustrating a couple and replacing their body parts with trees and bird houses.

The shirt is printed in two colors, utilizing the navy material as a third color.

The Logo

Rufus came to me with the idea of creating a logo of a house. He wanted a roof on top of "us," which would phonetically say Rufus. I filled several pages with sketches showing a carrot shaped element over the word, but it just resembled what I can only imagine Paul Rand's notes looked like when creating the UPS logo.

I decided to create a logo by stacking the U and S under a roof. This created new opportunities to extend the U to a chimney and form the S to act as logs. The home became more of a cabin, something more intimate and personal. That definitely fit this artist much more than a standard home.
